Year 7 have the opportunity to visit Chateau Beaumont in France, visiting sights such as the famous Mont St Michel.

FRENCH ENCOUNTERS FIELD TRIP
The Modern Languages department are delighted to launch the Year 7 French residential trip to Château
Beaumont in Mayenne, Normandy. After a number of very successful visits to the centre, we have made a
provisional booking for 1 st -5 th April 2019.

The Château is a well-established centre designed for school students visiting from Britain and is run by a
company based in the UK. It is set in 10 acres of private grounds and has been converted to accommodate
school groups. The facilities on site include: Sports Hall, Disco Hall, Restaurant and Common room. The staff at
the chateau are English but speak French and pupils are encouraged to speak to them in French.
At the Château, accommodation is within en-suite dormitory blocks for groups of between 8-14 students. The
teachers’ accommodation is situated next to student dormitories for ease of supervision and security.
The students will receive three meals a day. Meals are carefully planned to include a range of French dishes that
are healthy and enjoyed by young people. Students will also get the opportunity to sample local French
delicacies, such as frog’s legs and snails!

We will travel by coach and ferry to the centre. At the centre we will follow a specially designed programme
which will give the students an opportunity to practise their French and experience French culture. Students will
use their French at the market in Laval and they spend a day in the seaside town of Mont-Saint-Michel. In
addition, there will be the opportunity to take part in some outdoor pursuit activities, such as zip-wire and
archery. Evening entertainment will include a talent show, quiz and a disco. Full supervision and animation are
provided by the group leaders assigned to our group at the Château, together with staff from Kirkburton Middle
School. On the return journey home, we will travel to the historic seaside town of Arromanches, in order to visit
the D-Day landing beaches and the 360°cinmea to learn about the history of the area.

The cost of the trip is £465 (payable by Parent Pay), which includes all transport, accommodation and full board
meals from arrival at the Château, all activities, excursions and an exclusive personalised hoodie to wear on the
trip. The students should need no more £10 pocket money, in Euros, per day to buy souvenirs when on
excursions and extra snacks from the tuck-shop if they wish.

The trip will be a fantastic opportunity for students to practise the spoken French they are learning in school and
experience the culture which often cannot be appreciated in the classroom.

An initial payment of £90 will be required by Monday 16 th July. This is due to the fact that we need to pay the deposit
