Provision for pupils who have a statement of special educational needs will be additional to, or different from, the provision made generally for children of that age. At Kirkburton Middle School we aim to ensure that all children feel included and that their needs are met in a positive learning environment.
Pupils will be supported by a team of staff both inside the classroom and around the school. Programs of study are tailor-made to the needs of the child to ensure a personalised learning program which allows the pupils to reach their full potential.
All staff share the responsibility for the development of all our pupils. As such pupils with additional needs are taught in mainstream classes as much as possible to ensure a high degree of integration with all the benefits that this brings. Inclusion is a real strength of the school.
Close liaison with our feeder schools allows for a fully supported transition program for pupils with additional needs. This means that our pupils are confident and familiar with the school routines before they start in Year 6.
