Autumn/Spring

Pupils will do two 9 week projects on rotation.

Resistant Materials

Pupils will design and make a decorative light.  They will learn how to solder by making a simple circuit.  They will learn scales of production and industrial processes, in particular how to vacuum form and will build upon CAD/CAM skills learnt in year 6 by designing vinyl to decorate their light on 2D design software which will be produced on the vinyl cutter.

Food/Textiles

In food, pupils will learn about healthy foods through the tasing and making a variety of mainly savoury dishes such as soup and pasta bake.  They will use the Eatwell guide to ensure their dishes are nutritionally balanced and will also be introduced to standard components and food science.

Spring/Summer

Pupils will do two 9 week projects on rotation.

Resistant Materials

Pupils will learn about mechanisms and develop their skills using a wide range of tools and machines by designing and making a simple pull-along wooden toy.  2D and 3D CAD skills will be developed alongside this project.

Textiles

In textiles, pupils will research the 1960s and design and make a pencil case using images from that era. CAD/CAM is introduced through the use of the laser cutter and they will learn about the sublimation printing process. Pupils will learn about fibres and fabrics and suitable fabrics to use for printing.
