Practise facilities are in use most days with pupils using them to develop skills, prepare for both instrumental and vocal exams and/or to form a Band.

Performance opportunities are given and pupils are encouraged to take part in events in school and in the community.  One of our first opportunities is our Showcase Evening in the Autumn Term.

Each year pupils perform at Kirkburton church where we hold our Carol Service.

Every Christmas Musica Kirklees’ Staff Orchestra and/or Staff Rock Band are invited to come and entertain pupils. These concerts are great fun and informative, with the ensembles playing diverse repertoire and introducing the different musical instruments together with giving our pupils access to high-quality live music.

They have learnt to play along to songs such as, ‘Smooth Criminal’ (Michael Jackson) ‘White Stripes’ (Seven Nation Army), ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ (Nirvana), ‘Chasing Cars’ (Snow Patrol) and ‘Use Somebody’ (Kings of Leon).  Well done to you all.

A new music club started on the 24th April 2018 which was led by Miss Roulson from Musicakirklees and supported by Miss kaye.  Thirteen pupils attended and enjoyed learning and performing together an arrangement of  ‘Budapest’ by George Ezra.

2016 Huddersfield’s Got Talent Winner

Sam  and his Band were winners of the  Huddersfield’s Got Talent competition last year.
Sam plays Electric Guitar in a Band used to be known as ‘Volume 11’ now called ‘V11’ to make the name sound more PUNK in style. There are 5 members of the Band and they rehearse weekly at Ricky’s School of Rock. They perform on a regular basis mostly in the Yorkshire area.  They have performed at Huddersfield Town Hall at a charity event.  The Band have recently released a single which can be listened to on all the main music sites (like spotify and Applemusic).  The single is called ‘1984’.
In school Sam gets together most lunch times with some of his class mates… Oliver (Drums), Jensen  (Vocals) and a new member Cody  (Bass Guitar).  They recently performed ‘Paradise City’ and ‘All Star’ with a transition of the ‘Mii’ theme tune as their own song choice task to their teaching group.
