Mrs Sheridan writes:
Year 6 pupils have been given letters about next year’s visit. Replies need to be back by Monday 14th June.
Here are quotes from some of the pupils who went this year:
‘This holiday was really fun!’
‘I would recommend this holiday to others because they meet French people and it’s a
really good experience.’
‘A good fun experience and you learn lots.’
‘This holiday was fun but educational as well and the people at the chateau are lovely.’
‘I learnt about the culture in France and I have improved my French.’
Kitty, Roby and Annabelle wrote the following diary of events:
Monday
We got on the ferry at around 8.00 a.m. after travelling on the coach all night. The ferry was massive! We were on it for six hours but there was plenty to do. When we got off, we boarded the coach and wnt to Chateau Beaumont. When we got there we had some free time in our dorms to unpack. Then had our night activity, the Treasure Hunt. We had to find things around the Chateau. Then we went to bed.
Tuesday
Today we went to the hypermarche and the marche and we had to speak French to buy our food for lunch. We met the Bee-man who sold beeswax candles, setts (honey) and jars of honey. After that we went to the animal refuge and there we ate our lunch. It was really yummy! After lunch, we entered the park. There was lots of unusual animals. My favourite animals were the monkeys, especially the baboons. They love peanuts! After that, we went to la chocolaterie. We got a taster of chocolat (it was really nice) and we watched a video about how chocolate is made. Then we went to the chocolate museum where we saw the Mona Lisa made out of chocolate! Then we were allowed to buy some chocolate! There was so much to choose from! Then we went back to the Chateau and ready for our evening activity. Our evening activity was Blind Date. The teachers round was the best! Mrs Booth’s secret identity was Lady Gaga and Mr Papworth’s was Nicolas Sarcozi! It was really funny! Then we went back to our dorms.
Wednesday
Today we visited St Mont Michael. We were set the task of buying a postcard and a stamp. It was very very windy. We had to walk up a lot of steps to get to the top where there was an abbey. After this we had our lunch and had some free time to look around St. Mont Michael. We visited some of the shops on the way down. In the afternoon we visited the goats cheese farm. We saw all the cute goats who ate our clothes and shoes. We then tried some of the different types of cheese, the medium hard cheese was the nicest. Our evening entertainment was the French dress and quiz night. We all had to dress up like French people and it was really good fun. After this we had hot chocolate and then went to bed.
Thursday
On Thursday we went to the castle at Fougere. It was April Fools Day! `Poisson d’Avril’ in French. So when we got to the entrance they gave us a paper fish which we had to wear on our coats. It was a practical joke and we were laughed at by all the French people who were visiting. At the end they told us the joke. In exchange for the prank they gave us some chocolate fish from la chocolatarie. After that we had lunch and went to the creperie. I had a chocolate crepe and it was really yummy! Then we went back to the Chateau and had some ton libre (free time) to get ready for our evening activity.
Friday
A trip to the Bayeux Tapestry which we had learnt about in History and then the long journey home!
