AN OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT

After competing against nine other top schools in March, we were very proud to announce that KMS were the U13 Sports Hall Athletics West Yorkshire Champions.

They followed this by representing West Yorkshire in the County Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield and once again came away Champions!

So we are now County Champions – the Best in Yorkshire!

A simply superb all round team performance from all the boys and girls who took part.

We are also proud of ….

Eoin S (Yr6) recently represented Sheffield Wednesday Football Academy in a two-day tournament in San Francisco!  What a wonderful opportunity.

Jacob H (Yr7) was selected to be part of the West Yorkshire U13 Boys Sports Hall Athletics team who competed in the regional Sports Hall Athletics finals in Halifax on Sunday 21st March.  Jacob took part in three events and received a medal in all three events.  The U13 West Yorkshire Boys team won the event and now go through to the national finals at the NEC Arena, Birmingham in April.  Well done Jacob and good luck for the final!

Brothers Alex and Tim N (Yr8 and 6) picked up gold medals at the 12th Scottish Taekwondo Open in Falkirk recently.  Alex competed in the Cadet Male division (49kg) and won his semi-final by TKO.  He then repeated the feat in the final, stopping his opponent in the first round to claim gold.  Tim also competed in the Cadet Male division (33kg) and proved too good for the rest of the field, making it a family double. The boys train three times a week in Rotherham. Great news, boys;  this is a just reward for all the time and hard work that you put into your sport.

Elliott M (Yr8) recently took part in a fundraising Windsurfing event raising money for Cancer Research. Well done, Elliott!

WHOLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

Another successful and very well-organised event with a great atmosphere.  Everyone who completed the course should be pleased with their efforts.  The first three in each race were:

Y7 Girls – Rebecca M (1), Chloe H (2), Jessica G (3)

Congratulations to Lucy S, Aidan B, Nathan H, Jordan S, Emma D, Thomas P, Kyle H and Jon-Jo J who all represented the school with credit at a Sportshall Athletics event held at the Sports Barn in Huddersfield last month.

Mrs Procter writes:

Congratulations to both our Y7 and Y8 Netball teams for their efforts and commitment this season. Thanks to great teamwork coupled with fluent and accurate passing, the Y7 team recently beat Holmfirth in a very close match, winning 6-5, whilst the Y8 team secured a superb result, beating Holmfirth 15-1!  The Y7 team then went on to beat Newsome 15-5. This was followed by further victories by both teams with scores of 16-3 and 18-11 respectively.

The Y8 girls then beat Scissett, Royds Hall and Salendine Nook to win their league in another superb tournament.  After beating All Saints in the semi-final they just missed out on the winning trophy, losing 4-2 to Colne Valley.  The girls played a very high standard of netball throughout, as always.

The next tournament for the Y7 team was held on a very wet and cold evening.  They beat Colne Valley, Scissett, Metherhall, Salendine Nook and Royds Hall to go through as winners of their league to the semi-finals where they beat Holmfirth.  The final was against a very strong Honley team and although the girls played some outstanding netball, this time they were beaten 5-0.  Thanks to all players, you really deserved your silver medals.

The Y6 High 5 Netball team made an excellent start in the Newsome tournament, beating South Crosland 5-0 and Scissett B 5-0.  After drawing with Rowley Lane, the team were beaten by Scissett A in the semi-finals.  The team finished the competition in a very respectable fourth place.  A great effort by all the team and many thanks to the nine players.

The Y8 Hockey team have played in the Huddersfield Schools Tournament beating Scissett 3-0 and Mirfield 3-0, drawing 0-0 with Honley but then being beaten 1-0 by the overall winners, Holmfirth.  The team finished in a well-deserved second place.  Congratulations to all players.  At the end of the season, the girls in both Y7 and Y8 Hockey teams finished runners-up in their leagues.  Many thanks for all your hard work through a difficult, very wintry season.

The Y7 Hockey team played very well against Honley and Mirfield in the first round of the tournament before playing Holmfirth in the semi-finals.  At full time it was 1-1 which then went to `golden goal` but after extra time it was still 1-1! At the toss of a coin we cruelly missed out getting to the final – well done to all of the girls.

Mr Martin writes:

Congratulations to all the boys who played in the Y6 inter-house football tournament.  Well done to Blue House who defeated Yellow House 3-1 to secure third place.  In the final, despite a pulsating game with some great saves and goal line clearances, the game finished 0-0.  Replay to be played soon!  Well done to all the House Captains and Assistants.  Many thanks to Austin McE (The Cookie King!!) for supplying his squad (and myself) with glorious, tasty chocolate cookies!

Well done to the Y6 football team who took part in three league games of football against Dalton, Lepton and Kirkheaton schools.  We lost 1-0, drew 0-0 and won 3-0 in the three games.

The cricket season started with the first round of the Banbury Cup playing Scissett in the rain. KMS posted a decent batting total of 91 off 16 overs and then put in a very decent bowling and fielding performance to hold Scissett to 72 runs.  Fantastic bowling and an excellent all round team performance.  Well done to all.

Mr Johnson writes:

Congratulations to the Y6 Boys football team who played really well against Honley School, dominating for much of the game to win 1-0 and move on to the semi-finals of the cup.

Our Y8 football team have had a very strong season.  Even though they won 4 and lost 3, two of the losses were to Holmfirth who only just beat us in the semi-final of the Huddersfield Schools Cup that they later went on to win.  What has been most impressive has been the boys’ team spirit, determination to compete and above all the way they have enjoyed their football.  They have been a real pleasure to coach and I wish them every success in Y9 and beyond.

Mr James writes:

Well done to pupils who took part in the 7-a-side tag rugby tournament at Leeds Road.  The boys achieved a creditable fourth place in our table and played a very good level of rugby.   We won 1, drew 3 and lost 2.
