SCHOOL COUNCIL

School Council elections are held every year at the beginning of the Autumn Term electing 8 pupils (4 boys, 4 girls) from all year groups. Members of the management team meet with the council once per half-term. The purpose of the council is to give the pupils of the school a real opportunity to influence the running of the school and to express their opinion about any aspect of school life whatsoever.

Members from each of the year groups make themselves available every Tuesday when pupils are able to meet them and put forward ideas they would like to be considered.

Issues we have discussed at the school Council recently have included: uniform; starting a school tuck-shop; school dinners; eating sweets at break-times; redecoration of school; playing ball games on the all-weather pitch; and having lockers in school, to name just a few things!

School Council are also consulted regularly on issues such as: grant bids; ‘The Kirklees Healthy School Standard’ which the school is currently working towards; the review of the school’s Rewards and Sanctions Policy etc.

School Council members are then given opportunity to feed back the results of discussions during Year Group Assemblies.
