OFSTED

`Kirkburton is a good school.  Several aspects of the school’s work are outstanding.’

Today pupils are bringing home a copy of the Ofsted Report from the inspection carried out last

term.   I hope that you will find it of interest, that it accurately reflects your view of the school and that it reassures you about the quality of care and education that your child receives.

We are delighted with the report; in particular that so many of the school’s strengths have been recognized.  These include the ‘very strong inclusive school community based on shared values’, the ‘strong relationships’ between staff and pupils and the quality of lessons (‘Pupils are achieving well because of the good quality of teaching and learning that they experience’).

They also include pupils’ ‘excellent behaviour‘, their ‘high levels of attendance’, their application to work (‘pupils work hard and apply themselves well in lessons’), the extent to which pupils feel safe (`they feel very safe in the school and know that on the rare occasion that bullying does occur there is always someone to talk to and sort it out quickly`), equality of opportunity, the provision of care for individuals (`the school rightly says one of its strengths is the way it looks after pupils as individuals particularly those with special educational needs and/or disabilities`) and the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer (`… particular strengths in personal, social and health education and the wide range of clubs, sporting and creative, open to all pupils’).

We are confident in our ability to respond to the suggestions made as to how we can improve further and I will let you know in more detail how we intend to do this later in the term.

I have thanked pupils already for their contribution to this outcome.  I have also thanked all members of staff for the dedication and professionalism shown at all times, not just during the inspection period.  I would also like to say a very special thank you to parents who returned the questionnaire.  Your support is highly valued and much appreciated.
