In the next few weeks, all Year 7
pupils will be starting a unit of
work based on map work. This
is linked to the Ordnance Survey
Free Maps for 11 year olds scheme.
Every Year 7 pupil will be given a 1:25000 map of the Huddersfield district. Pupils will be bringing their maps home along with other material from the Ordnance Survey. On completion of their unit of work pupils will all be taking part in the KMS Map Work Award which has been set up to encourage the use of maps at home. This will involve completing exercises, leading to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. With a little effort and support from home, every pupil will achieve a Bronze Award with Silver and Gold Awards going to those who are able to complete the more demanding tasks. Hopefully this will encourage and enable more young people to get outdoors and enjoy the great British countryside (when the weather improves!).
