Feb-March Music News

Mrs Howard writes:

On 20th February, the African Drumming Group took part in the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival, giving an excellent presentaion of two pieces and receiving positive and encouraging comments from the adjudicator. The group achieved a grade ‘B’ for their performance which was described as ‘a convincing performance, both technically and artistically’, and were awarded First Place and a most impressive trophy.  On 26th February our School Choir also competed in the Festival, singing two contrasting songs, the popular Oasis number `Wonderwall’ and a five-part round.  The Choir were awarded a Merit and also received some very positive comments and feedback from the adjudicator.  Well done to all.

Several pupils also took part individually in this prestigious and high quality Festival.   Congatulations to the following:

Girls Solo (Years 7 and 8) Alaina H (Y8) 2nd

Prepared Reading (Y8 and under) Joseph H (Y7) 3rd

Shakespeare (Open Age) Joseph H 2nd

Dramatic Solo (Y7-13) Joseph H 3rd

Verse Speaking (Y8 and under) Joseph H 1st

Young Peoples Choirs (Youth Choir) Caroline O (Y8) 2nd.

Congatulations are also due to Joel K (Y8), Rafi S (Y8), Thomas H (Y7), Philip M (Y8) and Charlie H (Y8) who performed with the Scissett Youth Band under the direction of Mr Simon Mansfield and were awarded 1st place in the Brass Band Class!

Last but not least, Scarlett K has passed her Grade 2 piano exam with Distinction and Adam C has passed his Grade 2 Drum exam.  Scarlett and Adam are in Year 6. Well done to you both.
