Autumn 

Hinduism, one god or many?
This unit is intended as an introduction to Hindu Dharma for Year 7 students. Following a brief introduction to Dharma (way of life) it focuses primarily on the key question, ‘One God or Many?’ through an exploration of story of the Trimurti and the symbolism of murtis as a means of considering Brahman, the Ultimate Being and the Atman (the self, soul or life essence). The unit includes exploring how murtis are used in Hindu worship (puja). The life of Gandi is studied.

Spring

Sacred writings
A study of Christian and Hindu sacred text, asking what can be learnt from it today.
The religions studied in this unit are Christianity and Hinduism.

Summer

Does God exist?
A study of the arguments for the existence of God, along with Christian and Sikh beliefs concerning God.
The religions studied in this unit are Christianity and Sikhism with opportunities for other views.

 

The school has no affiliation to any particular denomination. Religious Education is designed by the local Standing Committee on Religious Education to teach about religion. Religious Education is not intended to promote a set of beliefs or faith in specific religious ideas since this is the proper role of religious institutions themselves. Collective Acts of Worship are broadly but not normally explicitly Christian in character.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education or Collective Worship either in whole or part, in which case the school will arrange alternative provision on an individual basis. This happens extremely infrequently and parents are asked to discuss any concerns with us before making such a request.
