Year 6 Spring

In the first half of this term, pupils will be studying ‘Relationships and Sexual Health Education’, a module written by Kirklees Health Education team.  Aspects covered will be:  how family units can vary and the relationships within them; changes during puberty; conception and birth.  This will be followed by the subject of ‘Racism and Human Rights’ using ‘Journey to Jo’burg’ by Beverley Naidoo as the theme. 

Year 7 Spring

This term our topic is ‘Community Cohesion – What is Britishness?’  Students are asked to consider all the influences that shape who they are and the influences that shape the UK.  What is it that makes us special and unique as individuals?  What commonalities bind us all together?

Year 8 Spring

Our unit of work in the first part of the term looks at ‘Government and Democracy’ including a visit by the Mayor.  This will be followed by ‘Relationships and Sexual Health’ a unit written by Kirklees Health Education team.  Aspects covered will be: what types of relationships do we have and why do some become sexual; stereotyping in relationships; peer pressure; human reproduction and forms of contraception; sexually transmitted diseases and where to go to for advice and support.

Year 6 Summer

Pupils are learning about which commonly available substances and drugs are legal and illegal, their effects and risks, and how to behave responsibly.  They will then cover the subjects of how to live safely, assess risk and basic first aid.

Year 7 Summer

Pupils are learning about the effects of all types of stereotyping, prejudice, bullying, racism and discrimination, and how to challenge them assertively.  They will then learn about the media and how it is not always presented in a balanced way and how to budget and manage money.

Year 8 Summer

Pupils learn about the criminal justice system, through role play scenarios.  They will then follow the Kirklees Sex and Relationships Education Module, followed by ‘The Real Game’ Careers Education Unit.
