Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

In Information and Communication Technology (ICT), pupils use computers in a variety of contexts. The aim of this work is to provide pupils with the skills and knowledge they will need in order to exploit the full power of computers and understand their potential.

Wherever possible the work is related to the application of ICT in everyday life. Pupils use the computers with increasing independence as they progress through school, making increasingly complex choices. At all times the children are asked to consider the benefits and advantages of using ICT and to consider its appropriateness for the task in hand.

Pupils have access to two networked PC rooms with Internet access together with a smaller number of computers sited in each year group shared area. Pupils can use the computer networks for personal study (with permission) at lunchtimes.

In Year 6 pupils are introduced to a wide range of skills and programs which they are then able to develop in other subjects or in their independent studies. These include data-handling, desk-top publishing, control technology and computer-aided design.

In Year 7 and 8 pupils develop their skills and knowledge further through using programs in more sophisticated ways and through using more advanced programs.

ICT lessons are enhanced by ICT activities in all other subject
