HOMEWORK

Homework is a very important home-school link. All children are asked to complete tasks at home on a regular basis. These become progressively more demanding as the children proceed through school. Pupils need to do homework in order to reinforce work done in school and to build the habit of planned, individual study. A homework timetable is shown below.

* Due to the special nature and organisation of Technology, which includes Information and Communication Technology, Design and Making (Food and Textiles, Compliant and Resistant Materials), homework may not be set every fortnight. At certain periods of the year pupils may receive homework in these subjects on a weekly basis; at other times homework is not appropriate. The total amount of homework given will, however, be approximately equivalent to one per fortnight.

Parents are asked to provide their children with a space free from distraction in which to complete their homework, to check it and ensure that it is completed to their satisfaction.  Pupils have a Homework Diary and Planner which is an important aid to personal organisation. Pupils are expected to record important dates, achievements in and out of school, things to remember and instructions for homework.

It is expected that parents will take an interest in their children’s work; parents are asked to look at the planner and the way it is being used, discuss the contents with your child and sign it each week. Class teachers also check and sign the planners on a weekly basis. If there is a problem with homework (too much, too little or not set), please contact the subject teacher in the first instance.

If pupils do not complete homework on time or to the teacher’s satisfaction this will be recorded on a special page within the pupil planner. If pupils fail to complete three pieces of homework in any half term without good reason they are liable to be placed on an after school detention.
