ART and DESIGN
The overall aim of our art teaching in school is to develop the skills, enthusiasm and knowledge of our pupils which encourages free artistic expression.
In all three years pupils study the art of earlier periods and other cultures. Sometimes, working artists visit the school and pupils visit art galleries and exhibitions in order to enhance and extend artistic activity in school.
Each year begins with a drawing module where the skills of pen or pencil control and observation are developed, setting the firm foundations for the work which follows.
Pupils then work in a wide variety of media, including oil pastel, chalk, paint, collage, printmaking, spray techniques and aspects such as tie-dye. Pupils work in three dimensions using clay, card, natural ‘found’ materials and Plaster-of-Paris.
