Aims of the school
Welcome !
Kirkburton Middle School means the pupils, staff, parents and governors.
‘There is a shared commitment at all levels to provide an interesting and
relevant education for all pupils.’ OFSTED
Children are firmly at the centre of everything we do and we are fully committed to achieving the aims of Every Child Matters; namely that every pupil should enjoy and achieve, stay safe, be healthy, achieve economic well-being and make a contribution.
We aim to achieve excellence and provide equality in terms of care and opportunity for all pupils, irrespective of ability, gender, race, class or culture, and we actively seek to ensure that all pupils will work to improve their personal levels of achievement. We maintain a strong tradition of high academic and social standards and expectations.
Every member of our school community is expected to act as a positive role model to others, by:
· treating others the way we would expect to be treated ourselves;
· endeavouring at all times to work in partnership with others;
· speaking to others in a way that affords respect, dignity and courtesy;
· being pleasant and friendly towards one another;
· being cheerful and enthusiastic;
· being seen to be fair, equitable and non-discriminatory in our relationships;
· making everyone feel welcome and valued as an individual.
In these ways we aim to:
· Provide a peaceful, safe, secure and caring environment in which positive
attitudes can be fostered and purposeful learning can take place.
· Promote self-discipline, self-confidence and self-esteem, thus enabling pupils to work both independently and through co-operation and mutual support to work effectively with others.
· Provide pupils with the concepts, knowledge and skills which they will need for later life and help them to develop an enthusiasm for learning.
· Foster tolerance, understanding and develop multi-cultural awareness in order to enable pupils to respond to the needs of others.
· Ensure that pupils develop a personal sense of moral and spiritual values and an acceptance of responsibility for their actions.
Help pupils to achieve enjoyment and success in as wide a range of experiences as possible and to feel valued as an individual whose achievements and contributions to school life are fully recognised.
